Useful information
(An access statement is available on request)

Fyfield manor is an 800 year old house so may not be suitable for some people depending on the level of disability. Hopefully you will find the following information useful but please email me or phone if you have any questions or concerns. The property is not suitable for children under 10 years of age. This is due to a fast flowing unfenced stream in the grounds and the wrought iron staircase which a small child could squeeze through.

Position

Fyfield is half a mile from the centre of Benson on the road to Ewelme. Although there is a footpath there is no street lighting and it is a good 10 minute walk to the nearest pub. The 132 bus stops outside the property and runs every hour but not on Sundays. Recommendation - A car is recommended if you have any degree of physical disability.

Arrival

Cars can be unloaded at the front door and assistance is always offered. Parking is a few yards from the entrance and is on one level. An energy saving light is always on after dark over the front door.

Public areas - hall and dining room

Both are on the same level offering plenty of space. There is a low step to access the games room. I offer a good selection of chairs which can accommodate most peoples postural requirements. I am in fact an Alexander Technique teacher and so am particularly aware of the importance of a good chair! Although the bedrooms are ensuite there is a downstairs cloakroom available for guests to save them trekking up and down the stairs of which there are 17.

Corridor

Is always lit with an energy efficient light.

Blue Room

A particularly comfortable bed, lots of space for movement. Bed can be converted to a 6ft double. The bathroom is on the same level. There is no walk in shower but a cradle shower in the bath. The flooring is non-slip. Tea and coffee are in the room and the TV is remote control. Clear instructions are written in the room of how to contact me in an emergency. Verbal instructions can be given on request

Cream room

There are 2 extra steps to reach this suite and a strong handrail is fixed to the wall to assist you. Once up the steps the bathroom and bedroom are all on one level. Again there is no walk-in shower but only a hand shower over the bath. The bathroom is very spacious. The bedroom offers masses of space in all parts of the room- however if the sofa is required as a bed the space is limited. If you have any disability we recommend you stay in one of the above rooms rather than the Cloisters. This is because you can not access it by the front door and there is a greater distance to walk. Also should you need assistance at any time it would be more difficult to contact us.

We give a very personal service here and are happy to assist whenever needed. For those with any hearing impairment we can always write any information down which is not in the rooms.

Gardens

There are several gardens which are accessible to guests on request.
